sock monkey by statue
Since the Detroit Zoo doesn't allow elephant rides our little sock monkey had to sit down and rest.  George chose to rest against the statue of a little elephant that was overlooking the exhibit.  It was too early in the year for the little zoo train to be running, so George had to rest up for the walk back to the front gates.
It was a wonderful day to be outside and walk through our beautiful zoo.  But all good things must come to an end.
The week after this outing we were hit with another bad snow storm.  That's Michigan!
Our sock monkey continued his tour through the zoo enjoying all the different animals and soaking up all the sunshine.  Who would have guessed that we had a huge snow storm the week before?
At the back of the zoo is the elephant exhibit.  It is amazing how an animal this large can seem so gentle and kind.  George would have liked nothing more than to take a ride around the park on one!

sock monkey with chimps
George had to see the chimps, it's the best part of going to the zoo!  Sock monkey found the chimp exhibit all torn up.  Instead of chimps there were men on big machines, working to make a new and better home for all to enjoy.
George did find the chimps confined to a small area out of harms way.  He enjoyed a wonderful visit with his friends and can't wait to come back when the exhibit is done.
Next our little sock monkey visited the newest exhibit at the zoo, The Arctic Ring Of Life.
Here George poses with a couple of his friends by the statue just outside the entrance.
Once inside you are transported to the arctic circle.  As you walk through a glass tunnel you can watch the polar bears and seals playing in the water right over your head!  You don't realize just how large these animals are until you're close enough to them to almost reach out your hand and touch one.  It is quite an experience and worth the trip.
Try placing your hand on the wall of ice and leaving it there long enough to make a mark!

sock monkey on frog
March was a crazy month in Michigan as far as the weather goes.  One week we had severe snow and ice and the next week it was all gone and the weather was like spring!
Our little sock monkey took advantage of the beautiful weather one day and took a trip to the Detroit Zoo.
Here George takes a moment in the amphibiville exhibit to clown around on a statue of a big old bull frog.  YeeHaa!
